Xakanaxa
IS the game destination in this prime spot - but do
we tempt fate by 'saying' so?
The
general condition of the 'bush' is marvellous and has
made 'cat spotting' that much more difficult. The HUGE
flood predicted has not materialised, someone has pulled
the plug - water rises daily on the game drive routes
but all routes are still open. Fortunately, the weather
has been kind to us this winter, but of late the winds
have blown in a rather cool condition and everyone looks
like they are going on a 'south pole excursion' when
departing in the mornings!
There
have been daily sighting of lion in both the morning
and the evening and guests were delighted recently when
they happened on a buffalo kill in progress and were
able to observe from start to finish! Leopard have been
scarce and mostly spoor and kills are seen, not the
animal itself, although a leopard swimming for shore
was spotted by a boat cruising the channels. Occasional
Cheetah sightings have provided wonderful opportunities
for both seasoned and amateur photographers on safari!
Elephant
herds appeared early this year and signs were aplenty,
but just as it appeared they were transitory and had
moved further afield, they have started to return to
the area with sightings of around 200 animals recorded
just recently.
The
wild dogs were initially appearing in ones and twos
then en masse in numbers of 11 and 14. They kept guests
enthralled with speedy kills to boot. Video footage
of this could give National Geographic a run for their
money!
And
lastly, signing off with the news that our bushbuck
family have just welcomed a new addition to their family!
Long
live Xakanaxa's attraction and best kept secret.
