Xakanaxa
is still producing phenomenal game sightings and our
visitors have had some really wonderful experiences,
not only with the game (big and small), but also with
the sheer beauty of the area.
We’ve had some fabulous encounters with wild dog,
who have returned after an extended absence. We’ve
heard them calling close to camp at night and were lucky
enough to have them in camp one morning recently, while
the Bushbuck have kept guests amused in the evenings
and during siesta time by “mowing the grass”
around camp. The usual abundance of birds around the
guest areas at tea time continues and “Doc the
Croc”, our resident crocodile is still hanging
around hoping for fish to swim into his jaws! His sunbathing
antics at the deck make for wonderful dinner table conversation
in the evenings.
The Carmine bee-eaters have returned early this year
and are now a frequent sight and regularly fly over
camp. Over the past month, guests have had several occasions
to witness lion attempting to hunt from the big herd
of buffalo who have stayed in the area - unfortunately
they don’t seem to have what it takes to actually
make the kill.
Our hippo family have been in camp on a regular basis
as have a number of elephants (creating havoc with the
early morning wake-up calls!) and we’ve even have
a few rare appearances by a civet in the evenings. This
month’s highlight has got to be the leopard with
her cub, especially as neither seem to be camera shy!
Having had full capacity in camp for so long it’s
really been worthwhile having all these experiences
of the animal kind!
The water continues to rise and close up certain routes
and the Moremi is as beautiful as ever!
