CHIEF’S CAMP

Location

Chief’s Camp is situated in the Mombo Concession of the Moremi Game Reserve, which is known as the “predator capital” of Africa and is considered to have the finest game viewing in southern Africa. The area is also home to the Big Five. The camp is situated on the north-western tip of Chief’s Island, in what is termed seasonal delta. The area is therefore seasonally suffused with floodwaters. Generally, the floodwaters infiltrate the area in June/ uly and remain for a period of 4 to 5 months.

Child Policy

Children under 9 years are not accepted as the camp is unfenced.

Accommodation

The camp, constructed on a green-field site, comprises of 12 luxury bush pavilions, three with king beds and nine with twin beds.

  • The main deck area is split-level and offers expansive views over the floodplain to the north. The lower level of the deck houses the swimming pool

Game Viewing

Apart from its predators, the area is also renowned for its large concentrations of plains-game, elephant and buffalo. Both white and black rhino were introduced in 2001 and 2003 respectively.

Activities

  • Game drives are conducted in custom built open 4x4 vehicles, which offer individual seating. Game drives are conducted early morning and late afternoon or as otherwise requested (subject to availability). The accompanying professional guides are among the best in Botswana.
  • Mokoro (dug-out canoe) activities Explore water safaris at the gentle pace of a poled mokoro (this excursion is offered in high season only, subject to water levels).
Electricity & Water
  • The camp has water hot and cold, the water is not safe to drink therefore bottle water provided.
  • The camp has electricity.
Drinks Policy

All stocked drinks are included in the nightly tariff (except premium brands).

Laundry Policy

A fully complimentary laundry service is offered daily.

Extras Payment

All extra’s can be paid for with Visa and Master Card credit cards in addition to travellers' cheques and cash (Diners Card and American Express are not accepted).

Rates are inclusive of accommodation, meals, beverages (except premium brands), park fees, game-viewing activities, laundry, and emergency evacuation insurance and transfers to / from the Chief’s airstrip. Inter camp flights are at an additional cost.

Gratuity

Tipping is not obligatory but generally accepted is: US$5-10 per couple per day for the guide US$5-10 per couple per day for the camp staff box.

Airstrip Details

The camp has its own licensed private airstrip (S19.18.44 E022.54.34), which is located approximately 2 kilometres from the camp.

Please note the luggage restriction is 20kgs per person in a soft-sided bag.
