SUSUWE ISLAND LODGE

Situated in north-eastern Namibia, the island is in the remote Kwando River within the Bwabwata National Park - a permanent water source which nourishes delicate ecosystems and sustains varied game and birdlife.

Child Policy
No children under the age of 12 years are accepted. Children are welcome, should the lodge be booked exclusively. As the lodge is in a wildlife area, children should be under the care of a parent/guardian at all times.

Camp Description & Recreational facilities
Susuwe Island Lodge is built to incorporate the riverine forest - the main complex has lofty canopy viewing decks overlooking endless savannahs, glistening lily-studded wetlands and ancient Kalahari woodlands, as well as a firepit, spacious lounge and dining areas, curio shop and small reference library.
Game Viewing
At Susuwe game drives in open 4x4 vehicles in the Bwabwata National Park. Game sightings in this cradle of rivers could include vast herds of roaming elephant and buffalo, lion, hippo, leopard, sable, roan and lechwe for example. Night drives at Susuwe offer an even closer insight into the intrigue of the African bush.
Activities
Activities are land and water-based and include, river cruises on the Kwando River and 4x4 game drives in Bwabwata National Park.
Electricity & Water
Tap water is not recommended for drinking. YThere is a flask of drinking water in each suite.
The electricity is generator supplied, and runs on 220Volt AC with standard South African three-point plugs in each chalet. A torch is provided for use when the generator is switched off during the night.
Drinks Policy
Unless otherwise specified, soft drinks, local brand beers and house wines are included in the rates. Furthermore, there is also a selection of cellar wines, imported beers, spirits and liqueurs.
Laundry Policy
Laundry can be placed with the laundry list into the laundry bag which is in the wardrobe. Weather permitting it will be returned the same day. Laundry is complimentary and part of the service.
Dietary requirements

The cuisine is al fresco fusion style, and the chefs are happy to cater to any requirement. Please inform our reservations of any special dietary requirements and we will do our utmost to oblige.

Gratuity

If you are well satisfied with the service you have received, any gratuity that you may wish to leave for the staff will be greatly appreciated. All these gifts of appreciation are pooled and divided equally. This is entirely at your discretion. Any currency is acceptable, but please note that local banks do not change foreign coins. We do accept MasterCard and Visa credit cards for gratuities.

Communication
The lodge is linked with HF Radio and the lodge makes use of bushmail (radio email). Cellular communication is possible at the lodge.
Community development fund
A ZAR40.00 donation is requested from each guest on departure from the Lodge. This is placed in a
community development fund, which is utilized for local community upliftment projects over and above what the lodge contributes. This contribution is however a voluntary contribution. Islands in Africa, in conjunction with the tribal authorities, determine the priority of the projects which need funding.
How to get there

To Livingstone or Victoria Falls with either a charter or road transfer to Impalila Island or Kasane. Commercial flights to Kasane Airport in Botswana with a short road transfer to Kasane Immigration and harbour, and boat transfer to Impalila Island Lodge. Commercial flights from Windhoek to Katima Mulilo or Victoria Falls/ Livingstone.

By Road (self drive):

Travel west along the main road between Katima Mulilo and Rundu for approximately 114 km to the Kongola Bridge over the Kwando River, where there is a police check point. A Susuwe representative will meet you here where you will park your car and you will be transferred by a Susuwe 4x4 vehicle. Cross border permits will be required in Namibia for foreign cars. Beware of cattle and goats on the roads when driving in Namibia.
