SOSSUSVLEI WILDERNESS CAMP

Location

  • 350km south of Windhoek.
  • 40km from Sesriem which is the main gateway to the Namib Naukluft Park and the dunes at Sossusvlei.
Child Policy

Children over the age of 8 years are welcome.

Accommodation

There are nine chalets in total consisting of:

  • 8 twin bedded chalets (2 can accommodate triples)
  • 1 honeymoon chalet
  • 3 pilot/guide beds (1 single and 1 twin) which are not the same standard as a guest room

This camp can accommodate 18 guests plus escort/guides

Accommodation Amenities:

  • Rock brick, timber and thatch units built on the side of a mountain with exceptional views
  • All units have large glass fold-back windows overlooking the desert
  • En-suite shower (also with great views of the desert)
  • Outside private plunge pool on each unit
  • Fans and large mosquito nets in rooms
  • Soap, shampoo and insect repellent are supplied in each room
  • Safe in each chalet

  • Main unit under thatch
  • Large outside veranda area with views of the desert
  • Pub and dining area with small curio shop
  • Stargazing platform and open air dining deck under the stars
Game Viewing

Area mainly renowned for physical beauty and not for game viewing. Possible wildlife sightings include oryx, cape fox, jackal, springbok, ostrich, aardwolf, spotted hyena and many desert species of plants.

Activities

  • Full day excursions to Sossusvlei which include brunch at Sossuvlei and return to camp between 14h00 and 16h00 (note that it is a 1hr 30 minutes to 2 hour drive to the end of Sossusvlei)
  • 3 closed Land Rovers and 1 open Land Rover. Blankets are provided on the vehicles when it is cold and windy
  • Hot air balloon excursions at Sesriem (on request and at additional cost)
  • Nature drives on the property
  • Nature walks on request
  • Aub River Trail which starts and ends at this camp
  • Optional night drive after dinner to look for bat-eared foxes and aardwolf

Suggested Daily Activity Schedule

Day 1 – Arrival

16h00 – Tea with savoury and sweet snacks.

16h30 – Depart on afternoon activity (Sundowner / Sesriem / guided walking trail).

20h30 – Dinner at the camp – buffet style.

Day 2

04h00 – Wake Up.

04h30 - Light breakfast of juices and cereals.

05h30 - Depart for Sossusvlei.

Full buffet brunch is served on the dunes.

15h00 – Return to camp.

17h00 – Tea with savoury and sweet snacks.

17h30 - Depart on afternoon activity (sundowner / Sesriem / guided walking trail).

20h30 - Dinner at camp – buffet style.

Day 3 – Departure

07h00 – Wake up (depending on departure time or if ballooning).

08h00 – Hot breakfast prior to departure.

Electricity & Water
  • 220v lighting available in each chalet 24 hours a day.
  • Generator for power in main areas, kitchen and rooms.
  • Video battery recharging facilities available, please bring spare battery and adapters.
  • Geyser heating for hot water in the rooms.
  • Drinking water supplied.
Drinks Policy

Local drinks and house-wines are included but premium imports are not.

Laundry Policy

Daily service is included in the nightly tariff, however laundry facilities are limited due to a water shortage in the area.

Gratuity

 The following is the suggested gratuity schedule only and is subject to service standards:

  • NAD100 per guest per day. This will be divided up amongst the camp staff.
  • Guides should be tipped separately.
Interesting facts about the lodge/ what makes it special

In one of the most remarkable places in the Namib Desert, lies Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp: adjacent to the massive Sossusvlei dunes that rise dramatically more than 300 metres above the adjoining plains, and surrounded by rugged, ancient volcanic mountains.

How to get there

Guests are collected from the airstrip and transfered to the lodge by game drive vehicle. The transfer takes approximately 10 minutes.

Luggage

In Namibia there is a 20kg luggage restriction per person for any charter transfers. Please note that the cargo pods on a normal light aircraft cannot handle suitcases and hard bags, so luggage must be packed in soft bags.
